Charlie's Angels
Looks like Gamecube has gotten its very own Superman 64.

Since the days of Atari there have been video games based on movies. And most of those games have been horrible. Charlie’s Angels isn’t the rare video game based on a movie that is actually good. Not only is Charlie’s Angels another bad video game based on a movie, but it is also one of the worst video games I have ever laid hands on. Somehow someway Neko Entertainment has taken a very simple beat em up formula and get it all wrong.

Gameplay
The games doesn’t actually follow the movies plot, it instead follows its own original story which defiantly isn’t a good one. The game starts with a FMV cut scene showing New York City and the Statue of Liberty, and then suddenly the lights go out for a few seconds and come back on with the Statue of Liberty gone. This sets the cue for the Angles to capture this master thief who is stealing national monuments all around the world. Needless to say, the FMV cut scenes are on par with the rest of the games quality, which isn’t a good thing.

The game is really straightforward with what you have to do. You play as one of the three Angels and run through plain environments beating up all the faceless bad guys that come after you. An arrow at the bottom of the screen leads you to where you need to go next. It’s not rare for that arrow to lead you straight into a randomly placed invisible wall, or into an object like a crate or ladder. Once you reach a certain point in a level, you change characters and rinse and repeat. The controls are very basic, consisting of punch, kick, block, and jump buttons. This in affect makes the gameplay very basic. So basic that you will get very bored of the game in a matter of minutes. The only combos in the game seem to be none other then smashing the punch or kick button, or doing a jump kick or jump punch. The fighting just comes off as very clunky and very boring, something that seems would be something easy to pull off, yet Neko Entertainment gets the beat em up formula all wrong.

Graphics
Now you would think that they would put extra effort into graphics seeing as this game is based off of a movie where looks are the most important factor. The only character to slightly resemble her movie counterpart is Cameron Diaz’s, the other two look nothing like what they should be. And that’s just in the cut scenes. The actual in game graphics are absolutely horrible, even for N64 standards. Blocky, unclear, and stiff character models make you wonder if you are actually playing as one of the three angels or guys in bikinis. Oh yeah, the camera is also one of the worst seen in a video game.

Sound
It’s surprising how the voice acting is done by the actual actresses of the movie yet it is still horrible voice acting. Oh wait this is Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu we are talking about, surprised I am no more. The voice acting is completely emotionless, you could probably get more emotion out of a tree. Bernie Mac doesn’t even do his own voice acting, instead a voice actor who sounds absolutely nothing like Bernie Mac does. Aside for the voice acting the game also has horrible sound effects, as well has horrible background music. There are some licensed songs from the soundtrack but they are only present in limited situations and don’t do much to help this game out.

Replayability
Why would someone want to replay this game much less finish it? Seriously this game is so bad you will be hitting yourself in the head if you bought it. The game can easily be completed in about three hours, but there is really no reason to waste three hours of your life attempting to beat it. Even if you play through the game and beat it, there is nothing to bring you back around a second time, only nightmares to haunt of you of this horrible game.

Overall
This game offers you the full package which includes horrible gameplay, horrible graphics, and horrible sound, horrible story. It’s a horrible game, and it shouldn’t be played by anyone except those who get kicks out of playing horrible games. So don’t buy this game, don’t even think about buying this game, it’s just horrible. It’s clear that this game was made quickly to try to cash off of the movie. Shame on you Ubi Soft and Neko Entertainment for making such a horrible game.
