Get ready for an RPG unlike any you have played before: Riviera: The Promised Land has a unique art style and immersive story that is set to create a unique adventure for portable RPG fans. The graphics are hand-drawn, beautifully detailed, and look very vibrant on the Game Boy Advance screen. This unique art style brightens up your screen and truly delivers upon a graphical marvel. Yet this isn’t all Riviera: The Promised Land is about.
Riviera: The Promised Land blends traditional RPG action and battles with a less-familiar navigation system that unfortunately limits your actions in the game. However, this change creates a simpler, direct-to-the-point game design that puts players right in the action and skips the exploration portion of a traditional RPG.
The story surrounds an epic war waged between gods and demons ages ago. In order to bring peace to the world and hope for a better future, the gods of the land known as Asgard sacrificed their own lives and created a defense army (known as the Grim Angels) who would end the war and fight off the evil. These protectors vanquished the demons and sealed away the evil from the land, taking with them the powers of the gods. These dormant powers would remain in the peaceful isle of Riviera, where nothing would disturb them for an entire millennium.
As all good things come to an end, however, there was soon a disturbance in the peace brought by the Grim Angels. One thousand years of peace were suddenly disrupted by signs that showed that the demons had risen once again; it was time to seek the gods and seal the evil once more. Thus starts the adventure of Riviera: The Promised Land, where the Seven Magi take it upon themselves to seek the aid of the Grim Angels – whom have been resurrected – in an attempt to ward off the evil demons. The Promised Land of Riviera is the last hope for a prolonged peace.
It is up to you to vanquish the newly resurrected evil, utilizing items that differ in ability depending on the character using it. Atlus promises an adventure 30 hours in length, with multiple endings, hidden items, and mini-games.
Riviera: The Promised Land was released on June 28, 2005 and has been rated T for Teen for containing Mild Fantasy Violence, Use of Drugs, and Sexual Themes. It has an MSRP of $29.99.
