Yesterday, I had a chance to take part in a media conference concerning Namco’s latest release for the Game Boy Advance, Sigma Star Saga. Matt Bozon of WayForward was on hand to give a brief presentation, and to field some questions from the press.
Matt gave a lot of insight into Sigma Star Saga. He started with its concept, and then progressed it to the product it ultimately became. One surprise to me was how much tweaking the game had undergone since its last appearance at E3 2005.
More specifics were given on how the story will likely progress. You play as a human pilot who is a double agent spying on humanities’ latest enemy, the Krill Empire. Along the way players will have to make crucial decisions, and these will affect how the storyline unfolds.
The conversation also turned to highlight items that will likely aid your character on his journey. Some of the items mentioned were a pistol, scanner, and even bug wings. Seriously, how many games allow you to don a pair of bug wings? Not many that I can think off.
More details were also offered up on the shooter-based game play found in Sigma Star Saga. The shooter sequences occur while your character is exploring the different locales. These are triggered randomly, and consist of your ship fighting through a couple waves of enemy targets.
The most intriguing part for me was a more detailed explanation of the gun data system. This system allows players to collect and design a custom weapon system for their ship. Sigma Star Saga does provide a way to preview your design before you begin a shooter level, but you are not allowed to change or modify the setup until the end of that stage.
In the mean time, check out the new screenshots, and we will have a review of Sigma Star Saga as soon as we can. Stay tuned.
