The Gamecube has been out for quite a while now and it's about time an RPG has finally made an appearance. Lost Kingdoms does not provide the traditional RPG elements you would normally find in a RPG. In fact it is very original in its own way. Though the game is on the short side, the battle system is superb. Is this the ultimate Gamecube RPG we've been waiting for?
Katia, a young princess with a power to control runsestones, which permit her to summon a variety of creatures, embarks on a quest. A quest to seek out all the other runestones across the land in hope to stop an evil black fog. Hopefully, Katia can also locate where her missing father, the king, has ended up.
Katia summons and turns into monster cards. She uses these monsters as self-defense against enemies. When moving further into the game you will occasionally acquire new more powerful cards. All in all, there are 100 different monster cards to collect. These monster cards can be one of three basic types: independent monsters, weapon monsters and summoned monsters. When Katia summons independent monsters, they are sent out and will fight with her until their magic runs out. When she summons weapon type monsters, they attack their opponent with one single hit and are sent back to the card. Katia can use these cards one hit at a time until their magic runs out. Last, but certainly not least, are the summoned monsters. I found that these cards were the coolest! When Katia summons this type of card, the monster takes Katia's place and attacks with a gargantuous attack.
The monster cards also have attribute types indicated on the card. There are 4 different attribute types in all: fire, water, plant and wood. This part adds a lot of strategy to the battles. You can't just send out any monster in your hand. You need to send out one that's effective against your opponent's attribute, but take note that cards must have a certain number of magic stones to be used. If you do not have enough magic stones, damage will be taken away from Katia. So keep those tips in your head to help improve your strategy.
